On this occasion, we will discuss the state of democracy in the aftermath of a coup d’état like the one in Madagascar in 2009 and the reaction of the international community – and review the role of the media in the face of political turmoil in developing countries. This talk gives the audience at CPH:DOX a unique opportunity to get a first-hand account of a coup and to discuss the role of the media and also documentarians in portraying complex, real life, political upheaval.
The film ’Return of a President’ (Lotte Mik-Meyer) tells the story of the ousted former president of Madagascar, Marc Ravalomanana, and brings an extraordinary and intimate insight into the complex world of postcolonial African politics, diplomatic machinations and the anatomy of a coup d’état.
Join us at Kunsthal Charlottenborg at 5-6 pm. Admission is free.
NB: The talk will be conducted in English.
